The input subsystem changes were merged this week for Linux 7.2, which is seeing its merge window wrap up on Sunday. Most notable with the input updates is the introduction of the “wacom_w9000” for supporting newer, pen-enabled touchscreens.
The Wacom W9000 driver has been successfully tested with the W9002 and W9007A devices for which the developers were able to test and verify, but should work for other Wacom hardware too like the W9001 and W9010 after verifying their correct operation and making trivial additions like the device ID. The Wacom W9000 series support passive Wacom Pens and the touchscreens communicate with the system over I2C.
The Wacom W9000 series touchscreen usage goes back a way with the likes of the W9002 being found in the Microsoft Surface Pro from a decade ago.
In addition to mainlining the Wacom W9000 driver, there was also updates to various other input drivers with additional code hardening being a common theme. Some old/unused input drivers were also removed.
