Tata Group’s electronics subsidiary in India has confirmed it was hit by a cybersecurity incident. This follows media reports that sensitive supplier data, such as specifications for Apple and Tesla, was stolen and posted on the dark web.

A spokesperson for Tata Electronics told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the company found the breach a few weeks ago and moved quickly to contain it.

“A few weeks ago, Tata Electronics identified a cybersecurity incident on some of our systems,” the spokesperson said. They also said the company acted immediately and that all business units continued to run as normal.

600 gigabytes allegedly stolen

Reports on Monday said that more than 600 gigabytes of data, allegedly taken from Tata Electronics, were posted on the dark web. TechCrunch, a technology news outlet, said it found what appeared to be Apple supplier specifications and Tesla manufacturing documents among the files.

AFP said it could not independently confirm these claims. Apple and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
