If you have more money than you know how to spend, why not stick a sliver of T-Rex tooth onto the rear panel of your iPhone 17 Pro Max? That’s something that luxury brand Caviar wants you to do. It also reckons that some folks will spend R74,000 ($4,500) to do it.

Unlike the company’s iPhone 17 Pro Jobs Edition, this one isn’t a complete phone conversion. Instead, the Relict add-on is… well, an add-on. It’s a titanium-backed panel that attaches to the rear of the 17 Pro Max using Apple’s MagSafe system. On days when you don’t want to take your dinosaur for a walk,  it’ll just pop off.

Trendy T-Rex

Caviar doesn’t just want to sell you bits of dinosaur tooth and white alligator leather, which is what the Relict Magnetic Custom is made from. Several other options include titanium and crocodile leather, making us wonder exactly where the company sources its materials from. Something tells us Steve Irwin wouldn’t be very happy about it.

The cheapest of these will still cost about the same as a flagship smartphone. That would be Caviar’s R27,000 Proteus, which uses blue crocodile leather in addition to titanium. There are 99 of these available. The top-end Relict only features seven units for sale — presumably because it’s impossible to farm a T-Rex in 2026.

Each of these magnetic panel replacements features a similar design, with the accents, organic elements, and use of jewellery enamel setting them apart. For a wealthy person who still dreams of palaeontology, it might be worth nabbing the T-Rex version just to make that ‘I’ve got a dinosaur in my pants’ joke.
