HandBrake 1.11.2 delivers critical fixes for 2-pass encoding workflows, adds better WebM integration on Linux, and updates key open-source multimedia libraries to improve reliability across platforms.
HandBrake 1.11.2, the latest maintenance release of the free and open-source cross-platform media conversion tool, is now available, bringing a series of stability and workflow improvements for video encoding users.
The update addresses two significant issues affecting 2-pass encoding operations. It fixes a crash that occurred during 2-pass lossless x265 encodes and resolves a memory leak impacting 2-pass MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP9 and FFV1 encoding jobs. The fixes are aimed at improving reliability for professional and advanced media-transcoding workflows.
Linux users also gain improved desktop integration through the addition of WebM support to HandBrake’s .desktop file MIME types. While the software already supported WebM processing, the enhancement allows users to open WebM videos directly in HandBrake from file-manager right-click menus.
The release bundles updated versions of key open-source multimedia technologies, including FFmpeg 8.0.2 and SVT-AV1 4.1.0, enabling users to benefit from the latest bug fixes and performance refinements delivered by those projects.
Additional improvements include better handling of unsupported presets on Windows and macOS, a fix for automatic audio-track name generation on Windows, updated supported dither and encoder combinations, a corrected Core Audio AAC 7.1 channel layout, and a fix for VobSub palette creation in MP4 containers.
HandBrake 1.11.2 is available for Linux, Windows and macOS. Linux users can also install the software through Flathub, while Ubuntu 26.04 repositories currently provide version 1.11.1.
