Introduction: As synthetic biology moves from the laboratory to the consumer market, a company named SaimerBio is attempting to redefine the role of plants in home decor, gifts, and commercial spaces with living plants that can truly glow. The project is currently seeking a $2 million seed – round financing for market launches in China and the United States, the implementation of the first touring exhibition, and the development of core IP.
Traditional plants lack interactivity and communication power. SaimerBio enters the emotional consumption market with glowing technology
In the fields of home decoration and commercial beautification, green plant products have remained in the “static viewing” stage for many years. The product categories are outdated, the experience is single, and they lack social communication attributes. Young consumers are increasingly willing to pay for experiences that offer a sense of healing, a touch of technology, and are shareable. However, there are almost no plant – based products on the market that can meet these needs simultaneously.
The SaimerBio team noticed this gap. Using synthetic biology technology, they enabled common ornamental plants (such as petunias, succulents, and moss) to achieve stable and high – brightness self – luminescence. Different from light shows that rely on projections or LED light strips, SaimerBio’s plants are real living organisms. Their luminous intensity allows clear reading of text within a 3 – meter distance at night, and the luminescence lasts for more than 6 months, increasing as the plants grow.
This technology solves three major pain points of traditional plants: “lack of freshness”, “inability to interact”, and “difficulty in spontaneous spread”. In the content era dominated by short videos, glowing plants naturally have visual impact. Users are willing to take photos, check – in, and share on social platforms, thus forming low – cost content fission.
