It’s a moment everyone with a phone has experienced at some point: the phone slips between the couch cushions, nowhere to be found, and no one can hear it ringing because it’s been set to silent.
The frustrating experience has led to many a headache, but one TikTok user has a solution.
Dallas-based tech lifestyle creator Anna (@annalifeunedited) took to her page to share a shortcut that lets authorized users override “Do Not Disturb” settings, making it much easier to find lost phones.

Anna explains that in the iPhone Shortcuts app, users can add a new automation that would allow a specified user to send a code word to the phone, disabling the “Do Not Disturb” setting.
The trick would allow another person to call the missing phone, revealing its location even when it was set to silent.

While the hack is undoubtedly useful in some instances, several TikTok users noted that the process of setting it up was a bit complicated and came with certain risks.
“How am I supposed to tell the contact to text me without having my phone?” one wrote, pointing out that they would have to physically be with their emergency contact for the system to work.

Others filled the comments section with suggestions for how to find a missing phone without having to go through the difficult series of steps.
‘Just yell at Siri’
“If you have another Apple device, you can ping your device in the Find My app under the Devices tab,” one commenter noted. “You’re also able to ping devices in your Apple family, so I always use it when my mom can’t find her phone.”
“I just yell at Siri to turn on flashlight,” another added, while a third wrote, “Or how I do it: ‘Hey Siri, play something.'”
When all else fails, TidBits reveals that there is an Emergency Bypass feature on iPhones—one that may be a bit more straightforward than Anna’s.
