Microsoft’s newly unveiled Surface Laptop Ultra arrives as a high-performance, AI-focused challenger to the MacBook Pro. Featuring a 15-inch mini-LED display, a powerful new NVIDIA “RTX Spark” chip, and a sophisticated design with a large haptic trackpad, the device signals a new flagship direction for the Surface lineup ahead of its fall 2026 launch.
After a long wait, Microsoft finally unveiled its MacBook Pro rival, called the Surface Laptop Ultra, at Computex 2026. However, for many regular people, actually seeing the new hardware has been a challenge due to the limited access for content creators and tech reviewers, who aren’t allowed to test the laptop in detail. The new Surface Laptop Ultra is currently announced in only one size, a 15-inch model. Unlike the standard Surface Laptop lineup, which offers a variety of sizes (13-inch, 13.8-inch, and 15-inch), the Surface Laptop Ultra is positioned specifically as a high-performance, AI-focused flagship device.
We can see the extra-large haptic trackpad Microsoft has gone with, which has been a standout feature of recent Surface laptops. Another interesting design element is the slightly rounded display corners, which will inevitably divide opinions.
The 15-inch Ultra weighs approximately 2.04 kg, making it heavier than the 14-inch MacBook Pro (1.62 kg) but slightly lighter than the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2.15 kg).
