Cybersecurity company NordVPN has introduced Call Protection for iPhone, a new feature designed to help people screen out fraudulent calls before picking up.
The feature provides its users with an early warning of any potential scam attempts before they can pick up the phone. That puts the user on alert, likely making them less susceptible to attacks. This matters given recent research from the Global Anti-Scam Alliance showed that consumers lost roughly $442 billion to scams in the past year.
“Protecting people from scam calls on Android was only ever half the picture, and iPhone users deserve that same level of defense,” says Domininkas Virbickas, product director at NordVPN. “Our job is to make sure that wherever people are, whatever device they use, they have a real line of defense.”
How it works
The feature looks at call patterns and metadata to spot potential scams without ever touching your actual conversations. It means your calls stay private while the feature runs quietly in the background without requiring an active VPN connection.
To set the feature up users must open the NordVPN iPhone app, navigate to the “Products hub” tab, choose “Call Protection”, and toggle the feature on. The app will then guide them through updating the necessary iPhone settings. Once setup is complete, Call Protection runs silently in the background, providing real-time scam alerts, even when the VPN is not in use.
