An unmanned artificial intelligence (AI) robot Korean food store developed by a Korean start-up will be built at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the fourth-largest U.S. airport with more than 75 million annual users. It is the first time that it has entered the U.S. international airport with a system that does not go through human hands from ordering to cooking and washing, and it is evaluated as a new type of restaurant export model that combines K-food and domestic robotics technology.
According to the industry on the 24th (local time), food AI robotics start-up Synstar Presents will open its own AI robot Kitchen ‘Right So Express’ in LAX in the fourth quarter of this year. The store will sell instant Korean food menus such as beef rice bowl, chicken ribs rice bowl, and pork rice bowl.
This entry is drawing attention in that it has not gone through a general open bidding (RFP) process. Synstar Presents entered the core business district of international terminals by signing a 10-year long-term contract with ASUR, its LAX commercial facility operating partner. As the airport entry business is usually selected after months of screening around large franchise brands, it is unusual for Korean food brands created by startups to secure long-term contracts without a bidding process. It is analyzed that the kitchen system, which can be operated 24 hours a day, fits the demand of the airport operation side.
