Under the lantern, a robot monk joins together, and artificial intelligence (AI) recommends a meditation method suitable for a person’s state of mind. Buddhist culture combined with cutting-edge technology is gaining positive response from citizens as they embark on new experiments.

According to Newsis on the 24th, humanoids, autonomous driving, and AI robots participated in the lantern parade with monks at this year’s Buddha’s Birthday Lotus Lantern Festival. Lotus Lantern Society is a national and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Four robot monks, including “Gavi,” a humanoid robot promoted by a member of the Culture Ministry of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, “Sakja,” “Mohee,” and “Nisa,” as well as self-driving robots “Newbie,” and “Hyean,” an AI robot at Dongguk University, appeared.

Monk Seongwon said on the 22nd, “I wanted to show children and citizens a robot-friendly culture by participating in the test, but I was surprised to see the response was hotter than expected.”

The AI robot “Hyean Monk,” developed by a research team at Dongguk University, also attracted attention. It is the first semi-humanoid robot in Korea to incorporate “Physical AI,” and has been at the forefront of Dongguk University’s lantern parade with lotus lanterns on its head.
