During detailed benchmarking, RoniTekk assessed the performance of Resident Evil 2 on Linux and WindowsThe benchmark’s goal was to directly demonstrate the viability of Linux as a gaming platform, as NVIDIA GPUs consistently hold around 80% of the market. The popular Pop OS distribution, version 24.04, with the Wayland graphics environment, which offers built-in drivers for NVIDIA devices, was used.

Testing was conducted at 1080p resolution, maximum settings, no frame rate caps, no vertical sync, and Game Mode and NTsync enabled. The rig had the following hardware specifications:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X processor
  • RAM 32 GB
  • 1 TB SSD solid-state drives for every system

The results clearly showed that both operating systems consistently delivered over 200 FPS. The average frame rate on Linux was 30-40 FPS lower, but the crucial 1% LOW metric demonstrated a 10-15 FPS advantage for this platform. GPU utilization on Linux was 3-5% lower, but video memory consumption increased by 1 GB due to the use of Proton. Windows Higher CPU frequencies were recorded.
