A court in India has directed Apple to fully assist antitrust investigators examining the iPhone apps market, rejecting the company’s bid to suspend the probe while it contests the legal framework for imposing penalties.

According to a Reuters report, the Delhi High Court issued an order on Saturday instructing Apple to cooperate, but also barred the Competition Commission of India (CCI) from delivering a final decision in the matter before July 15.

Apple had sought a halt to the proceedings, alleging that the CCI had overstepped its authority by demanding the company’s financial records. The company maintains that its challenge to India’s entire penalty calculation law should take precedence before any such data is submitted.

The CCI has been requesting Apple’s financial information since 2024, when a preliminary investigation concluded that the company had abused its dominant market position. Apple has denied any wrongdoing and continues to resist the regulator’s demands.

This case is part of a broader set of antitrust challenges Apple confronts internationally. India has become a strategically important market for the company, with iPhones now accounting for 9% of the country’s smartphone market, up from 4% two years ago, according to research firm Counterpoint.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment on the court’s directive.
