Next month, 8th to 12th June to be more precise, Apple will be hosting its annual WWDC developer’s conference. In the lead up to the event, some information regarding what the Cupertino-based company plans to focus on, has been shared.
The sharer, in this instance, is Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (paywall), who is usually spot on with any predictions and insights ahead of big Apple events.
This time around, he noted that Apple is planning to focus heavily on privacy, along with the recent trend of AI. More specifically, Gurman shared that a privacy feature is coming to Siri in the form of auto-deleted chats.
It is part of the much-rumoured relaunch of Siri, which was planned for last year, but never materialised, owing to the fact that Apple Intelligence simply did not deliver on a lot of the promises that the company made.
Whether this time around will be different, remains to be seen, but Apple is said to be adding a new feature to its digital assistant that will auto-delete past chats. Precisely how far back chats will need to be in order to get auto-deleted is unclear for now, but the addition may go a long way into improving the image of Siri.
It is well documented at this stage that Siri had/has a reputation for surreptitiously listening in on iPhone user conversations, and then serving up content like ads and recommendations based on said conversations. Auto-deleting past conversations could result in better recommendations down the line, but that remains to be seen for now.
When WWDC 26 rolls around next month, we should also get more information on how Google Gemini integrates into Siri, as that is the platform that will now be powering the digital assistant. Apple will also likely debut new features and solutions as part of iOS 27. We’re hoping for a new design language too, as Liquid Glass has not been the game changer that Apple said it would be.
