As Claude and ChatGPT, which are representative artificial intelligence (AI) services, suffer from a series of service failures, user inconvenience is increasing. Claude’s recent failure rate estimates that the service has been out of service for nearly five days a year.
With each company’s infrastructure unable to handle the explosive increase in user demand, competition for model launches between companies is heating up and new functions are quickly introduced without sufficient stability verification, intensifying the problem.
According to the AI industry on the 17th, ChatGPT suffered a failure in service performance for about four hours due to an error in the file attachment function on the 11th. On the 14th, just two days later, there was a blackout for about 25 minutes while the logged-out user logged in again.
As the ChatGPT service’s major and minor failures continue, ChatGPT’s normal utilization rate (uptime) over the past 90 days is 99.82%.
In terms of percentage, the service seems to operate stably, but in terms of the time when the failure occurs, the failure occurs for about 2 minutes and 35 seconds out of 24 hours a day. Converting this to a one-year basis, it is about 15 hours and 44 minutes.
It is far below the minimum utilization rate of 99.9% or 99.99%, which is guaranteed by general software-as-a-service (SaaS) or cloud companies.
The situation is worse for Anthropic. Anthropic’s AI service Claude’s Uptime over the past 90 days is 98.66%, below 99%. This is a level where a failure of about 19 minutes and 18 seconds occurs every day, and the service can be considered dead for about 5 days when converted into a year.
