iPhone owners may be eligible for a cash payout from a $250 million class action settlement filed against Apple.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit allege that Apple violated consumer protection laws by falsely advertising its “Apple Intelligence” and Siri AI features, according to court documents.
Apple allegedly showcased its AI system and Siri features in a marketing campaign even though the features did not exist at the time.
The complaint accuses Apple of using deceptive advertising to saturate the market, convincing consumers to purchase the iPhone based on the enhanced features. It further claims the public reaction was “swift and intense” when consumers learned about the AI features.
Apple denies any wrongdoing in the settlement, which provides $250 million to resolve the lawsuit. If approved by a judge, it would be one of the largest settlements involving Apple.
“Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features,” an Apple spokesperson told CBS News in an email. “We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.”
Who is eligible?
Eligible consumers must have purchased one of the following devices in the U.S. — the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model — between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025.
About 37 million iPhone owners qualify for a cash payout, according to the court documents.
The $250 million settlement fund will provide consumers who submit approved claims up to $95 per device, depending on the percentage of claims received.
Those who wish to participate in the settlement will need to file a claim on the settlement website, which has not been released yet.
The plaintiffs’ attorneys at Clarkson Law Firm said the settlement details will be available on the settlement website, which is expected to launch in a few weeks, according to its website.
