Star Labs StarFighter returns with updated CPUs and 4K 120Hz display option

Star Labs has opened sales for the StarFighter, a 16-inch laptop designed around Linux support and open firmware. The system was first shown years ago, but it is now listed by the company as a configurable product with short shipping availability reported by Notebookcheck. 

The base configuration starts at $1,878 before taxes. It includes a 16-inch QHD 165Hz matte display, Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor, 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB SSD. Star Labs also lists Ubuntu 26.04, Fedora 44, Linux Mint 22.3, Manjaro 26, Zorin OS 18, Qubes 4.2.4 and other operating system options, with Windows 11 available as a paid option.

StarFighter is built with soldered memory, so RAM upgrades are not supported after purchase. Storage is user-replaceable, and Star Labs lists options up to 4TB for the primary drive. The laptop also supports a second M.2 SSD, with PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 options available through the configurator.

The laptop uses a 16:10 IPS panel with up to 3840×2400 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 625 cd/m² brightness. Star Labs also lists up to 18 hours of battery life, a haptic trackpad, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, HDMI, microSD, three USB-A ports and USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 support. 

Star Labs is also pushing privacy and firmware control as part of the design. The laptop has a removable magnetic webcam, internal storage for the camera module and a hardware wireless kill switch. It also uses open-source firmware based on coreboot and edk II, with firmware updates delivered through LVFS.
