Google today announced it’ll be livestreaming The Android Show I/O Edition just a week before its Google I/O event. Think of it as all the nerdy Android details that are being cut from the main stage show the following week to make room for more trendy Gemini AI announcements.

To that end, it sounds like there will be plenty of news on Google’s mobile operating system. The teaser page for the preshow calls it “one of the biggest years for Android yet.”

The Android Show — themed “Where you see the future first” — will take place on May 12 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) and can be livestreamed on YouTube (we’ve embedded the stream below).

Google I/O will take place one week later on May 19 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT). With the earlier event now giving Android-specific news its own spotlight, it’ll be interesting to see if any Pixel hardware or Android XR news is relegated to The Android Show, or if anything is deemed big enough for the main stage. Otherwise, you can expect the main I/O keynote to be a front-to-back showcase for all things AI, as Google looks to make Gemini to go-to choice over rivals like Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
