Understanding artificial intelligence is no longer a skill reserved for those who work in the technology sector: it is a transversal skill, increasingly in demand for those who are already in the working world and want to update their skills and for those who are training to enter it. To meet this need, the University of Pisa is offering three new free online courses dedicated to responsible AI, accessible to all on the national Edvance platform and usable individually or as an integrated course within the “Responsible Artificial Intelligence” series.
The three courses
The three courses address three pillars of the conscious use of artificial intelligence. “Privacy in big data and AI”, held by Professor Anna Monreale, Associate Professor of Computer Science, addresses the issue of data protection in the digital age, exploring the challenges that arise when large amounts of information are processed by intelligent systems. “Fairness in AI”, curated by Professor Salvatore Ruggieri, Full Professor of Computer Science, teaches how to identify, measure and prevent different types of bias in data and artificial intelligence models, showing how responsible AI design is indispensable in sectors with a high social impact. Finally, the course ‘Explainable Artificial Intelligence’, held by Professor Riccardo Guidotti, Associate Professor of Computer Science, guides towards understandable and reliable artificial intelligence, providing the tools to interpret and explain the decisions taken by opaque models.
Department of Computer Science
All three lecturers belong to the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pisa and share internationally renowned research backgrounds on the key topics of responsible AI, with publications in the most authoritative scientific journals in the field and participation in European and national research projects dedicated to the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
