Casella Waste Systems kicked off 2026 with what CEO Ned Coletta described as a robust beginning during the first-quarter earnings call held on Friday. He credited this performance to favorable pricing, stable core operations, and notable acquisition activity, along with enhancements in safety and customer service.
M&A and Star Waste Integration
So far this year, Casella has completed four acquisitions totaling roughly $150 million in combined annualized revenue. The purchase of Star Waste Systems, finalized on April 1, accounted for about $100 million of that figure. CFO Brad Helgeson reported that $23.9 million of quarterly revenue stemmed from acquisitions, including rollover contributions. Company leaders commended Star Waste’s management for their investments in essential systems and processes, which should facilitate a seamless integration into Casella’s current operations in the Boston area. Coletta noted that Star Waste is performing exceptionally well with a capable leadership team, offering a solid foundation for future expansion. Technology and Operational Efficiency
Casella has deployed in-cab artificial intelligence technology across its entire fleet in 2026, offering immediate feedback to curb risky driving behaviors. This initiative has contributed to a 20% year-over-year improvement in the company’s total recordable incident rate, according to Coletta. Additional tech advancements include the introduction of a new payment portal last month and plans to launch a mobile application in the second quarter, both designed to reduce costs and enhance customer experience.
