Another new iPhone update has just landed and it provides a new feature for some and a bug fix for all.
This post has the initial thoughts on the new release and I’ll be updating this post over the coming week and I’ll add final thoughts on Thursday, April 16.

Who Is It For And How Do You Get It?
This is just the same as other iOS 26 updates, that is, it’s for all phones from the iPhone 11 and more recent. The latest models, including the iPhone 17 series, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air, are all covered by iOS 26.4.1.
It’s straightforward to install: open the Settings app on your iPhone, click on General, then Software Update. Next, select Download and Install, and the software will download from there. This download was reasonably small, under 700MB on my iPhone 17 Pro Max.
What It’s About
Apple’s release notes are very short on this update, specifying only that it “provides bug fixes,” and nothing more. It’s since been learned, though, that it does provide a key update to enterprise users, which is already in iOS 26.4 for the rest of us: Stolen Device Protection is on by default for the first time. Stolen Device Protection is a major iPhone feature that’s been around since January 2024 but has always been down to the user to activate. Now, for everyone, it’s on automatically.
As for bug fixes, so far it’s been revealed that an issue with iCloud data syncing, which has affected more devices than just the iPhone, has been put right here.
Apple iOS 26.4.1 Security
There are no security updates in this release. “This update has no published CVE entries,” Apple said in a support document.
Initial Reactions
So far, as they say, so good. A number of Redditors have gone out of their way to praise the improvement in battery since installing iOS 26.4.1, not least, perhaps, because it’s a small update that hasn’t required massive re-indexing….
