Last week, Travel Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce, was just trying to catch a flight. She was walking through the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) when paparazzi started following her. She remained polite but seemed clearly uncomfortable.
When Kylie Kelce fired back on her podcast Not Gonna Lie, she said exactly what I, as a long-time Taylor Swift fan, had been feeling. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce deserve their privacy, and so do their families!
Kylie didn’t hold back, and I was cheering her on as I listened. She said directly to “literally everybody”: “Stop asking me and my mother-in-law about upcoming nuptials. Nobody is telling you anything.” She used an expletive I’m excluding here, but the situation totally called for it! She was right in everything she said in the rant.
As a Swiftie, I’ll be the first to admit that the excitement around Taylor and Travis’s wedding is totally understandable. Taylor Swift is a superstar, and she is marrying one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet. The interest and curiosity are understandable, but there is a difference between excitement and entitlement.
Taylor Swift may seem like she’s our best friend when we feel heard and seen by her lyrics, but she doesn’t owe us anything. She is still just a human being like anyone else, and she, her fiance, and their families all deserve respect and privacy.
Sometimes I imagine what it must be like to as famous as Taylor Swift is, and it’s hard to fathom what it must be like. Her financial freedom must give her privileges most of us will never know, but her fame also cost her a lot of basic freedoms. She’s unable to do simple things like go to the grocery store or have coffee in a cafe without the whole experience turning into mayhem.
