Donna Kelce was just trying to catch a flight. She was walking through the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) when paparazzi started following her. She remained polite but seemed clearly uncomfortable. She joked as she was peppered with questions by someone tailing her with a camera.
Donna refused to give in as the person tried to bait her for gossip about her son Travis Kelce and his fiancée Taylor Swift’s upcoming wedding. They also tried other tactics to get her to talk, asking about her favorite Taylor Swift song and her home’s new windows. She simply said, “I’m just happy. Just so happy for them.”
Donna seemed unflappable, but it was uncomfortable to watch. This should not be happening.
When Kylie Kelce fired back on her podcast Not Gonna Lie this week, she said exactly what I, as a Taylor Swift fan of many years, had been feeling. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce deserve their privacy, and so do their families!
Kylie didn’t hold back, and I was cheering her on as I listened. She said directly to “literally everybody”: “Stop asking me and my mother-in-law about upcoming nuptials. Nobody is telling you anything.” She used an expletive I’m excluding here, but the situation totally called for it! She was right in everything she said in the rant.
She called out TMZ by name. She called them out for being creeps in the airport for invading her mother-in-law’s privacy.
As a Swiftie, I’ll be the first to admit that the excitement around Taylor and Travis’s wedding is totally understandable. Taylor Swift is a superstar, and she is marrying one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet. The interest and curiosity are understandable, but there is a difference between excitement and entitlement.
Taylor Swift may seem like she’s our best friend when we feel heard and seen by her lyrics, but she doesn’t owe us anything! She is still just a human being like anyone else, and she, her fiance, and their families all deserve respect and privacy.
