Tech giant Apple has quietly discontinued one of its most iconic products, marking the end of an era for the Mac Pro line, which was first launched in 2006.
The Mac Pro has long been a symbol of power and customization, beloved by creative professionals, engineers, and users who demand high performance. It has also become known for bold designs, like the cylindrical model in 2013 and the return of the classic “tower” in 2019.
However, the device has received few updates in recent years. The last significant version came in 2023, priced around $6,999 and equipped with the M2 Ultra chip.
The Mac Pro’s decline reportedly began in 2013, when Apple introduced the cylindrical design that, while innovative, proved problematic. The cooling system failed to dissipate heat effectively, limiting performance.
The Mac Pro has now been removed from Apple’s online store and users are being redirected to the current line of desktop computers, which includes models like the Mac Mini, iMac, and Mac Studio.
However, the company has announced that it will continue to provide operating system and security updates to existing users.
At the same time, Apple has introduced new products, such as the iPhone 17e and more powerful versions of the MacBook, while removing a number of older devices from the market.
Among them are relatively new products, such as the iPhone 16e, iPad Air models with the M3 chip, and some versions of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
