I like to experiment as much as the next tech guy. I’m always trying new tools, tweaking my setup, and looking for ways to work a little faster or with less friction. I’ve complained about Windows plenty over the years, too. The bloat, the telemetry, the way it tries to push you into doing things a certain way. On paper, Linux often feels like the escape hatch, a cleaner, more flexible alternative where you’re actually in control.
I’ve tried to make that switch more than once. And every time, it almost works. Linux does a lot of things better, and in some cases, it’s not even close. But when it comes down to how I actually work day to day, I keep finding myself back on Windows. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s more consistent, more predictable, and better aligned with the tools and workflows I rely on.

WSL is probably the biggest reason I’ve never fully committed to switching. It gives me access to a real Linux environment without forcing me to change everything else about how I work. I can spin up a distro, install packages with apt, run scripts, and work in a proper shell, all while staying inside the same Windows setup I use every day. There’s no dual boot, no context switching, and no need to rethink my entire workflow just to get access to Linux tools.
