AI safety seminar at Flint library teaches seniors to spot scams

FLINT, Mich. — Seniors in Flint got hands-on guidance on how to protect themselves from scams and fraud during a seminar on the risks of artificial intelligence.
The Senior AI Safety Seminar was held Friday at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library.
The event covered cybersecurity, artificial intelligence safety, scam prevention and ways to improve digital literacy.
Program founder Sherrod Pigee of United AI Academy said the rapid advancement of AI can make it harder to spot scams.
“I’m in the business and I get overwhelmed. So, can you imagine someone who is living alone, not understsanding. May not have the latest and greatest phone, that has to change,” Pigee said.
Organizers encouraged people to watch for common scam warning signs, including pressure to act immediately, demands for sensitive information and unusual payment methods.
For those who could not attend, Pigee said more sessions will take place in the future.
