Intrinsic, a company that develops artificial intelligence models and software for industrial robots, is now joining Google. The companies announced on Wednesday. The unit will operate as a distinct entity within Google while collaborating with Google DeepMind and utilizing Google’s AI models and cloud infrastructure. The financial terms of this integration were not disclosed.
Intrinsic became an independent company under Alphabet in 2021 after initially being developed within the X research division. The company’s leadership has remained under its CEO since that separation. Following its establishment, Intrinsic acquired another robotics software firm in early 2022 and later acquired divisions of a non-profit robotics platform organization. Despite this growth, the company reduced its workforce by a significant portion in early 2023.
Intrinsic introduced its first product, a software platform for creating robotics workflows aimed at developers without extensive robotics expertise, later in 2023. The company has since enhanced its technology, improved simulation tools, and released a new AI model in late 2025. In the same period, Intrinsic formed a partnership with a major electronics manufacturer to collaborate on developing intelligent robots for manufacturing automation.
The integration with Google is intended to combine Intrinsic’s robotics focus with Google’s AI and infrastructure capabilities. The stated goal is to expand the application of physical AI in manufacturing, potentially affecting production economics and operations. This strategic move aligns with a broader industry perspective that views physical AI as a significant next phase for AI technology development and commercialization.
