It is predicted that sales of generative artificial intelligence (AI) startup Ansropic could overtake Open AI this year. Anthropic is a B2B-focused growth strategy that outperforms OpenAI in the corporate market, recording more than 10 times sales growth every year.
On the 22nd (local time), U.S. non-profit research institute Epoch AI analyzed the sales trends of the two companies and predicted, “Anthropic’s annual sales have grown tenfold since exceeding $1 billion, outpacing OpenAI’s annual growth rate of 3.4 times,” adding, “If the current trend continues, Anthropic sales will surpass OpenAI after mid-2026.”
Anthropic’s annual converted sales topped $9 billion at the end of last year after exceeding $1 billion at the end of 2024, and reached $14 billion in February this year, just two months later. In other words, annual growth is more than 10 times.
OpenAI reached $1 billion in annualized sales in August 2023, more than a year before Anthropic, but its annual growth is 3.4 times higher. As of the end of last year, OpenAI’s annual converted sales were $20 billion.
Epoch AI analyzed that if the two companies maintain their current growth rate, their sales rankings will be reversed after the middle of this year. This is the point where a full-fledged crack is detected in the open AI-centered market structure that has led the Generative AI for more than three years by releasing ChatGPT.
