THAT INCLUDES REAL TIME DATA COLLECTIONS FOR STREET CONDITIONS. RIGHT NOW, THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION DRIVES EVERY STREET IN THE CITY AND GIVES EACH A SCORE. THAT HAPPENS EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS. NOW THERE WILL BE SENSORS AND CAMERAS ON AMES CITY TRUCKS, WHICH CAN TRACK ROAD CONDITIONS IN REAL TIME. MEASURING HOW ROUGH THE PAVEMENT IS. BUT IT’S ALSO TAKING THESE PHOTOS. AND THERE’S ANOTHER LAYER OF PHOTOS THAT YOU DON’T SEE THAT IT’S LOOKING AT PAVEMENT DISTRESS. SO IT’S TAKING THE PAVEMENT DISTRESS, THE PHOTOS, THE ROUGHNESS, AND THEN IT RUNS IT THROUGH ITS OWN MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHM AND IT SPITS OUT A SCORE. OTHER TECHNOLOGY INCLUDE

The Ames Public Works Department is piloting new technology to help with street repairs.

Right now, the Iowa Department of Transportation drives every street in the city every two years and gives each a score.

Now, there will be sensors and cameras on Ames city trucks, which can track road conditions in real time.
