NORTH PORT, Fla. (WWSB) – Investigators have released a rendering of a man they believe was murdered nearly three decades ago, using new DNA technology to potentially identify remains found in 1996.
Human remains were discovered in Northport in 1996, but investigators were never able to identify the victim. After 29 years, investigators are still working to identify the man whose remains were found in the area.
A collaboration between the Northport Police Department and OTHRAM, a corporation specializing in DNA technologies, has led to new developments in the case. The partnership has produced a rendering of what investigators believe the victim looked like.
Murder case closed after 20 years
Investigators believe the man may have been a victim of David Conahan, a convicted killer and suspected serial killer in the area from the 1990s.
Investigators and forensic scientists hope the new technology will help bring justice to their John Doe case.
“There might be somebody out there who’s been looking for this individual for all this time and just hasn’t put the dots together,” an investigator said. “If we were able to do that and get justice for the victim, then I think we’d all be very happy with that.”
Anyone with information that could help investigators in this case is urged to call the Northport Police Department.
